Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence will soon be venturing into a directorial career with the film Project Delirium.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 star revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she will direct Project Delirium.

"I've signed on to direct something called Project Delirium. It's based on this article about mental warfare in the 60s, like an acid experiment gone terribly wrong," said Lawrence. "It's funny, I've wanted to direct since I was sixteen and always thought I should start making steps towards that. If I had tried to do it earlier, I wouldn't have been ready."

Lawrence added that she also likes to direct a comedy movie.

The ComingSoon.Net cited that Project Delirium is based on the 2012 New Yorker article Operation Delirium by Raffi Khatchadourian.

The story, which was set in the 1960s, is about an experiment of Colonel James Ketchum at the Edgewood Military Camp in Maryland.

Ketchum's chemical warfare experiment subjected more than 5,000 American soldier volunteers to dangerous incapacitating chemicals such as BZ, LSD and marijuana. The experiment aimed to find new methods of neutralizing enemies without necessarily killing them. The experiment, however, caused mental damage to the subjects.

This will be the first directorial project of Lawrence, joining the ranks of Angelina Jolie, Clint Eastwood, Ben Affleck and other actors-turn-directors.

Lawrence was recently busy promoting the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, which has already earned around $255-million worldwide.

Lawrence's upcoming films include Joy, which is set to hit the big screen on Christmas Day, Passengers with Chris Patt, and X-Men: Apocalypse wherein she will reprise her role as Mystique.

She is also currently busy co-writing with comedian Amy Schumer a screenplay entitled Trainwreck. Both actresses will play the role of sisters in the story.

Lawrence is this year's Entertainer of the Year by Entertainment Weekly.
