Samsung Electronics and LG Display will likely play a huge part in the OLED panel production for future iPhones. When Apple starts using displays, it will surely represent a major shift for current LCD display providers like Japan Display and Sharp.

For mass production of OLED smartphone screens, Samsung Electronics is rightfully the only company who can do that for Apple as LG Display produces OLEDs for television screens. However, the two companies make possibly great sources for Apple's displays, 9to5Mac reported.

Japan Display and Sharp are expected to feel the impact when Apple changes to OLED displays. Japan Display is said to rely on the iPhone company for about 30 percent of its income, while Sharp is struggling to rebuild its unstable operation.

Due to the large amounts of iPhones shipped by Apple, and the technical demands of producing OLED displays, a report states that Apple will likely pursue selling iPhones with LCD screens along with new models of OLED displays.

Popular Samsung Galaxy smartphones utilize AMOLED displays just like the Apple Watch. However, iPhones utilize LCD displays since the original models were launched nearly eight years ago.

Using OLED displays will provide better colors and clearer pictures unlike LCD displays. However, it has a shorter lifespan and is more costly to produce.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst from KGI Securities, Apple may likely adapt AMOLED displays for iPhones in the coming three years, with its main provider Foxconn now gearing up on financing the latest TFT-LCD production lines in China to support Apple's massive production in 2018.
