Climate change is a serious environmental issue affecting the world today. The satellites will be used to monitor greenhouse gasses in the country. China is said to be the world's top carbon producer.

According to the report, US President Barrack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping will work together to develop a low-carbon global economy.

While not much details about the project has been disclosed, it is said that China is planning to launch its first carbon satellite by May 2016. The satellite was developed by Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics and Physics.

The country will be the third in the world to launch carbon-tracking satellite after Japan in 2009 and the US in 2014.

A report by SBS said China has been experiencing polluted air, water, soil and constant flooding.

"What we're doing right now is for the sky to be bluer and the water to be clearer," Senior engineer Shen Youguo told the BBC. "We want a better future for everybody. So we're committed to being a part of that push."
