Smartwatch maker Omate will launch an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for the Omate Rise, a circular Android smartwatch with 3G connectivity.

In a press release, Omate has announced that the Rise will be the world's first smartwatch 3.0, meaning it's a 3G standalone smartwatch (no smartphone needed) and bluetooth companion.

Instead of running on Android Wear, the Omate Rise will run on Omate's UI 4.0 on top of Android 5.1 Lollipop. According to Engadget, this means that this smartwatch will be able to run apps and other Google Play services.

Omate promises that the Rise will enable users to track fitness, make and receive calls and text messages, email and social media notifications. It will also allow for internet tasks without the need to pair with a smartphone or Wi-Fi connection.

Additionally, it can also function as a notification watch when connected with phones running on either Android 4.3 or iOS 9 and above.

Although the brand may not be striking to the average consumer, it's pretty likely that the specs will grab much attention. Inside the mostly-plastic fiber body lies a MediaTek MT2601 chipset that features a 3G dual-core Cortex A7 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz; an ARM Mali-400 GPU; 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

In front is a sapphire coated 1.3-inch circular Innolux Color capacitive multi-touch display boasting 360 x 360 pixels; a bezel secured by stainless steel screws; a microphone and a loudspeaker. On the side is a single home/power button. The standard-sized 22mm strap is conveniently interchangeable.

On the back is an easy-open back panel that allows users to insert a Micro SIM card, and connect to 3G. The watch is powered by a 580mAh Lithium Polymer round battery, which is also found inside.

Other specs include an accelerometer, a GPS radio, gyroscope, and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity.

Omate is launching the Rise on a 48-hour Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign with the goal of raising $30,000, in order to have the bezel made of carbon fiber. This campaign starts Monday December 7.

Super Early Birds will be able to back the project for $199 (instead of $349) and will be the first to sport the smartwatch in March 2016. This date is way early compared to the June 2016 release for retail.
