Tony Hung Apologizes for Insulting Nurses

Tony Hung

(Photo : INSTAGRAM/Tony Hung) Tony Hung has come under some criticisms for demanding that nations step up military efforts to stop ISIS following the attacks in Paris.

While Tony Hung is no stranger to stirring up trouble with his oftentimes controversial opinions, the Hong Kong actor and host's most recent comment about nurses has been put in serious scrutiny that led to him promptly issuing a public apology.

Drawn from his experience as he filed the TVB nurse drama Angel in the Making, Hung openly shared his opinion on the profession saying that the job doesn't necessarily have a "highly respected position in society," despite the fact that their role in the medical industry "is in no way inferior to a doctor's." He goes on to explain that attending to the daily needs of patients, providing comfort and emotional support make nurses very important to the industry.

Despite his well-meaning statement about nurses, however, it seems to have rubbed netizens the wrong way as it was instead taken to mean that the actor was putting down the respectable profession. The public pointed out that the actor should really be more careful with how he phrases his statements.

In response, Hung was quick to issue a public apology saying that his intent was to "highlight the extent of a nurse's contributions, "as well as to emphasize that "a nurse is just as important as a doctor." He goes on to say that nurses indeed deserve to receive more respect that what has been given them.

Not one to let things go without incident, he makes it a point to address his detractors as well, asking them to go beyond a "surface reading of [my] words."
