Twitter users saw tweets about peoples' beach holidays and their drinking plans after looking out for news regarding the GamerGate controversy, an online movement concerned with ethics in video game journalism.

The Twitter account of Spencer Crittenden was suspended after repeatedly telling GamerGate supporters to kill themselves. Crittenden is known for his work on Dan Harmon's Harmontown, Rick and Morty and Community. Shortly after the report was released in Breitbart Tech, which stressed the quick intervention of Twitter on Crittenden posts, the bug emerged. The report emphasized the allegations of double standards in Twitter's guidelines against online abuse which are strictly imposed against ordinary and politically unfashionable users.

Ran Magen, a staff member of Twitter, was stormed with criticisms by Twitter users and GamerGate pundits after promising to immediately resolve the suspension of Crittenden's account. Due to this, Magen was forced to change his account to "private" to avoid netizens' anger following Crittenden's account being restored.

The bug did not seem to involve any other hashtags. It only affected GamerGate. According to one of the web's top tech support message boards, Stack OverFlow, there has been no negative feedbacks about Twitter searches sending in the inappropriate results.

Moreover, Google lookups did not show any occurrence of this matter, on any other hashtag, or in any other Twitter search.

Breitbart has already contacted Twitter's press team for a comment about the origin of the bug, but they have not responded yet.
