(Photo : Reuters) Motorola is said to be conducting a soak test for its Droid Turbo 2 smartphone.

Motorola announced on Friday that it is starting the soak test of the Droid Turbo 2 smartphone. The Droid Turbo 2, known outside of the United States Moto X Force, is the first of its kind. Motorola claims that it is the world's first smartphone with unbreakable display.

Tech experts believe, and hope, that the soak test for Droid Turbo 2 is for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, according to Android Headlines.

Basically, a soak test is a way for companies to test out a new operating system update with a select, and most of the time, exclusive group of users. This is to make sure that the update is compatible with the device and nothing is wrong with the update before it is rolled out officially.

Updates used during the soak test are usually the final version that will be rolled out. Once the soak test is successful, the version used during the test is the one that will find its way to users.

In the United States, the Droid Turbo 2 is exclusively distributed by Verizon. Devices that are exclusive to a specific carrier are usually the last to receive important updates, a problem that has stirred many users. Motorola is yet to confirm which Android version it is currently testing.

Prior to the soak test, Verizon and Motorola rolled out updates to some of their devices. The update includes the WiFi Calling feature. Aside from software updates, experts believe that Motorola is also working to fix some bugs and patch some security loopholes on its devices.

According to GSM Arena, the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 was released late in October. It features a shatterproof 5.4-inch screen with 1440 x 2560 resolution. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset with Quad-core 1.5GHz Cortex A53 and Quad-core 2GHz Cortex A57 CPUs. It has 3GB of RAM and is available in two storage variants; 32GB and 64GB.
