Lady Gaga recently took a trip down memory lane to reveal how she was raped at the age of 19. The diva shared details of that harrowing experience in her new song "Til It Happens to You," with Diane Warren.

The song is featured on the documentary about campus rape, The Hunting Ground

"I didn't tell anyone for I think seven years. I didn't know how to think about it," Lady Gaga revealed during the TimesTalks panel discussion.

At first it was difficult for the singer to accept what happened to her and she was putting all the blame upon herself.

"I didn't know how to accept it. I didn't know how to not blame myself or think it was my fault. It's something that really changed my life. It changed who I was completely. It changed my body, it changed my thoughts," she said.

The 29-year-old, who just scored her first Golden Globe nomination, explained that being raped brought her unexplained pain, physical and emotional.

"When you go through a trauma like that, it doesn't just have the immediate physical ramifications. For many people it has almost like trauma, where you re-experience it through the years after it. It can trigger patterns in your body of physical distress. So a lot of people suffer not just emotional and mental pain, but physical pain as a result of being abused, raped or traumatized in some way," she said.

Gaga first talked about the rape incident last year on Howard Stern's show on Sirius XM. But she said she refused to let it define who she is.

"I don't want to be defined by it. I'll be damned if somebody's gonna say that every creatively intelligent thing that I ever did is all boiled down to one d-head that did that to me," she told Howard Stern on his radio show in December last year. "I'm gonna take responsibility for all my pain looking beautiful and all the things I've made out of my strife. I did that."

Gaga is still mum about the identity of her rapist, but she said he was 20 years older than she. While Gaga told Stern she "went through some horrific things," she seems hopeful that she's now "able to laugh now because I've gone through a lot of, you know, mental and physical therapy and emotional therapy to heal over the years."

About her song, Lady Gaga said it was a rather painful song.

"Diane will tell you, it was really hard for me when (the song) came out. I was really stressed out about it. Every time I listen to it, I cry. Every time I get a text about it, I always feel sick. It's like this thing you don't want to face. But because she wanted to face it with me, it reminded me of what the song is for," she said in an interview with Los Angeles Times.
