UFC News: Conor McGregor Stops Jose Aldo in 13 Seconds

UFC 194: Aldo vs. McGregor

The fight between UFC Featherweight Interim Champion Conor McGregor and UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo was more of a grudge match than an unification bout at UFC 194.

Much like former UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, Jose Aldo had been on top of the division since its inception. The Brazilian fighter had defended his belt seven times in the Octagon before UFC 194.

The two fighters were previously supposed to meet at UFC 189, however Aldo was forced to withdraw due to an injury weeks before the fight and Chad Mendes took his place.

This biggest appeal of the fight had to be the pre-fight interviews and press conferences in where it appeared that McGregor seemed to get underneath the skin of the usually cool Aldo.

The Irish fighter clearly knew his way with words and also in the ring. McGregor had once stated that his main purpose upon joining the UFC ranks was to one day fight and defeat the legendary Brazilian.

My experts however, believed that McGregor would have a hard time with Aldo and the betting line leading into the fight had Aldo a slight favorite.

The moments leading up to the fight were tense as both fighters came into the ring ready for an epic battle. However, unfortunately for Aldo the fight was over almost as soon as it started.

A mere 13 seconds into the fight, the 10-year unbeaten streak of Jose Aldo was over. The Brazilian came in hard for an over the top haymaker which McGregor read perfectly and his cross counter hit Aldo square on the jaw, knocking the former champion out before hit the floor.

McGregor pounced on the fallen fighter attempting to hammer fist him on the ground, but referee "Big" John McCarthy had seen enough and called the fight over crowning McGregor the first UFC Featherweight Champion not named Jose Aldo.
