Abu Dhabi's health authority (HAAD) said a Nigerian woman who died in United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday was suspected to have an Ebola infection.

In a statement, HAAD said the patient’s health suddenly deteriorated while in transit phase at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The victim promptly received medical assistance but it failed to revive her.

According to UAE's state news agency WAM, the 35-year-old woman traveling from Nigeria to India for cancer treatment showed signs and symptoms of the Ebola disease. However, health officials made it clear that her medical condition could also be the cause of her death.

The five medical professionals who treated the patient and her husband, the only person seated next to her, received safety and precautionary measures based on World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, HAAD added.

Some reports say all are in good health condition and show no symptoms of the disease.

The UAE authority released a statement saying there is no reason for the public to panic. Etihad Airways, UAE's national carrier, disinfected one of its planes after the incident involving the death of the Nigerian suspected to have Ebola, reports said.

The airline strictly followed the guidelines laid out by the airline industry's main trade group to ensure the safety of all passengers and airline staff. There is no risk to the community and to other passengers on the plane from Nigeria and in the airport, UAE officials confirmed.

According to some reports, governments and airlines are cautiously screening every passenger from West African countries, while other airlines halted flights going to the afflicted countries.

Meanwhile, WHO assured the public that there is a very low chance of risk to passengers travelling on a flight with an infected person because Ebola virus is normally transmitted through direct contact with an infected person, report said.
