'Sword Art Online': Will Season 3 be Cancelled? Or will it be Similar to Progressive?

There are rumors that "Sword Art Online" Season 3 may be cancelled.

The hit anime series "Sword Art Online" is approaching its 3rd season. Fans can't wait for the hit show to return to the small screen. There are rumors that series' third season might get released before the end of this year itself.

However, it is also reported that A-1 Pictures studio is yet to renew or cancel the show. The studio is yet to comment on this. With both of these reports clearly contradicting each other, we are yet to see what happens to the 3rd season of "Sword Art Online."

Fans, who are a part of the Sword Art Online Subreddit, are very optimistic. According to their discussions, the 3rd season will soon be released on the small screen. However, they think that the show will return next year only.

Their discussions support the fact that is nearly impossible for "Sword Art Online" to be released within this year. Also, there is a lot of content which is still left out for Alicization currently. This makes it all the more clear that the show runners will need at least two seasons more to cover all the content.

It is highly speculated that Season 3 of "Sword Art Online" will cover the Alicization arc. However, there are rumors that the creators are thinking of using "SAO Progressive" in Season 3.

It is rumored that they might even go for a spin off of the series as the first seasons of the show were very well received. It is also possible that the 3rd season will be similar to Progressive, in which each of the floors will be shown in more detail.
