Facebook has started notifying users that pictures and content from Photo Sync are going to live in its Moments app starting Jan. 10.

No mention yet as to why Faebook decided to phase it out Photo Sync but observers say this will likely encourage present users to try a newer service.

Facebook's Moments app was introduced in June, allowing users to easily create photo albums that can be shared privately with friends. These photos are curated at the same time using location information and facial recognition of the visited places and who the user is with. The Moments app is now available for iOS and Android users at the iOS App Store and Google Play.

Backed-up image files of users will be transferred to this new standalone app. But the Moments app should be downloaded in order to continue syncing and uploading the photos of the user to the platform from their smartphone devices. Users can choose to view, organize, share, or remove their images that are previously synced through the Moments app privately.

Facebook's Photo Sync feature was launched in 2012. The company has been working hard on informing users of the upcoming change on the platform through promotional messages. Users that remain hesitant about using Facebook's Moments app can use the alternative method of downloading their photographs into a zip file on their computers, or deleting them through their Facebook profiles.

Users are allowed to use this platform so that their images are shared with their friends on the Facebook site directly through the Facebook app. This strategy is mainly to promote more usage of the Moments feature. Users will have a separate app to create private albums, sync photos from multiple users, use face recognition features, and many more with Facebook integration.
