University of Alabama to Investigate Racist Image Posted Online By Chi Omega Sorority

The University of Alama is set to investigate the racist image posted online by Chi Omega University

University of Alabama sororities were celebrating their new memberships over the weekend, but one sorority drew negative attention after posting a shot of one of their new members along with the controversial caption: "Chi, O Got No NIGGas!!!!"

The snapshot bearing the racial slur was posted to a Total Frat Move by the Chi Omega Sorority but was taken down after questions regarding the validity of the picture were raised.

School officials said the picture had gone viral on social media and was reported by "The Crimson White," the school newspaper.

Recruitment officials at the University of Alabama said the picture was offensive, inaccurate, and does not reflect the policy of the University sororities to offer invitations to black women to join any sorority they like.

Officials said recruitment at UofA has ended and all Panhellenic sororities invited black women to join.

The Crimson White reported that 21 black women and 169 others belonging to other racial minorities joined their new sisters on Bid Day, excitedly clutching their invitations to join the sororities in the University.

Chi Omega was one of the sororities heavily criticized in the school paper because of their penchant for creating controversies during their recruitment. A Facebook post by the Chi Omega said that the girl who sent and posted the snapshot has been kicked out from the chapter.

Chi Omega has issued an apology and clarification letter condemning the racist image and saying they have been cooperating with university officials in investigating the fiasco.

The sorority further state that what happened was totally reprehensible and completely  runs counter to its values and policies.

In its letter, Chi said that it embraces all women from all diverse groups "to form a network of friends" who similarly uphold the sorority values and its visions. Chi Omega added that it has pledged a diverse group of women, including two African-Americans.

The University of Alabama President Judy Bonner expressed sadness over the incident and said the university will investigate the case.
