Man Proposes Marriage With 1001 Hotdogs

Hot Dog Wedding

(Photo : Rex) Say it with hot dogs!

Some do it with diamonds, others with pearls. Some come in shining armor, riding on a dashing white horse. But why go with tradition? Been there, done that. So when love struck a young man from China, he got creative, and may have set the bar for oddball marriage proposals when he wooed his intended with a sculpture hewn from 1001 hot dogs.

Yep. Hot dogs.

The memorable collision of eternal love and questionable meat products happened August 16 in the city of Chengdu in China's central Sichuan Province. A man reports identify only as "Wang" laid out the word "LOVE" in hot dogs, buns and all, in a massive frame also made of hot dogs in a gaily-lit mall. Friends of the couple waited flash-mob style for the proposal to take place.

There is a method to the apparent madness: the 32-year-old man met his girlfriend, Zhen Juan Kan, after a case of the munchies sent him to a hot dog stand while he was on vacation in Thailand. They locked eyes over the links and the rest is history. The three-year relationship has been dashed with hot dog-themed jokes and references ever since.

So one can imagine that rather than being at the very least incongruous, Zhen was all smiles when she said yes. And a good thing she did, too — not only did Wang call in the crowds, a film crew was there to record the whole event.

With a diamond sparkler on her finger, the happy bride and groom-to-be shared a hot dog (like you didn't see that coming). With 1000 more to go, it was perhaps lucky there was such a crowd. Photos show witnesses of the engagement eagerly partaking of the tidal wave of wieners.

But vegans and PETA beware, Wang and Zhen have already declared that however their wedding ceremony plays out, hot dogs will be the prevalent theme.
