UK Twerking Championships: 13 Women Shake It for Chance to Twerk on Stage with Nicki Minaj

A former dance hall performer put her behind to work to beat a dozen other women for a chance to share the stage with twerking icon Nicki Minaj.

Jemini, 21, emerged victorious after five rounds of hard twerking on stage at the second UK National Twerking Championships last week.

The event, which was held in north London, had 13 contestants bounce and jiggle their way through five rounds.

The first round, called Freestyle, is a segment that allows dancers to show off their "tricks" to the panel of judges. During the segment, which lasts for 45 seconds for each of the 13 dancers, the contestant can perform solo or with a partner to a song of her choice.

Event organizer, Harry Anthony of Jump Off TV, said the goal of the first round is to have the dancers "put choreography together or demonstrate tricks."

Following the first round is the "jiggle and pop" segment, in which the dancers must shake their behinds with their feet firmly planted on the ground. Anthony described the round, which was formerly known as the jelly round, as "very technical."

"There are ways when you just kind of curl your knees in and your bum will shake," the organizer said.

Next is the upside down round, which Anthony said is one of the most popular parts of the competition. In it, dancers will have to do a handstand against a wall and twerk.

Domination follows after and sees the women rule over a partner with their twerking style.

After the four rounds, six of the contestants were called to advance in the final round, in which they had to come up with their own choreography using Minaj's latest song, "Anaconda."

Pink-haired Jemini lorded over her competition and took home £1,000 in cash. She will also perform with Minaj on stage when the singer next visits UK.
