Basketball News: Former NBA Player Hamed Haddadi Bags Another Player of the Week Award in the CBA

(Photo : gettyimages.com) Former NBA player Hamed Haddadi was recently named as Player of the Week in the CBA round 26.

Former NBA and Iranian veteran center Hamed Haddadi has once again been named Asia-basket.com Player of the Week for his spectacular performance for the Sichuan Blue Whales for the 26th round of the CBA.

Haddadi, the first Iranian to play in the NBA, had a double-double performance of 35 points and 15 rebounds in their game against the league's current No. 1 team Xinjiang Fighting Tigers, which they won 112-106.

With the win, Sichuan BW maintain the number two ranking in the Chinese league with 21 wins and 5 loses and a victory away from matching the standing of the top team Xinjiang.

According to Asia-Basket, the 30-year-old big man turned to be the Blue Whales top player in his first season with the team with his impressive league stats. Haddadi is the CBA second-best rebounder grabbing 15.1 rebounds per game and producing a remarkable 2.1 blocks per outing, shooting 54.0 percent from the field.

Haddadi played for the Memphis Grizzlies for five seasons. According to the NBA's official website, he is averaging 2.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.3 assist per game. He was traded and had a short stint with the Phoenix Suns before being waived by the team in June 2013.

The former NBA player is also a veteran of international tournaments. He is a member of the Iranian national team which won the gold medal in the FIBA Asia Championship in the years 2007, 2009 and 2013. They failed to defend the crown in 2015, when they settled for a bronze medal only in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship held in Changsa, Hunan, China.

He led the Iranian national team in the 2014 Incheon Asian games, bowing to the host country South Korea to win the silver medal. They also won the gold medal in the 2015 William Jones Cup held in Taiwan.

 In the CBA, Haddadi signed with the Sichuan BW as the team's bonus foreign Asian player in September 2013. In the following year, he played for the Qingdao DoubleStar Eagle during the 2014-15 season.
