The Rock to Star in DC Comics' 'Shazam' Film Adaptation: Hero, Or Villain?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has announced his plans of joining an upcoming DC Comics film adaptation.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has announced his plans of joining an upcoming DC Comics film adaptation, although he remains undecided between playing superhero Shazam, or his arch-enemy Black Adam.

Last Monday, the former WWE world champion told The Associated Press that he has always preferred anti-heroes, with Black Adam as one of his favorite characters from DC Comics. However, there was no clear answer to whether he will take on the role in red and yellow or the other character in black and yellow.

In the story, Shazam (formerly known as Captain Marvel) is a young boy who says the word "SHAZAM!" and transforms it into an adult hero with super powers.

Black Adam was supposedly chosen as the first Shazam until the disturbance of the half-demonic Blaze, which made him the villain in the storyline.

Johnson has recently promoted his "Hercules" film in Mexico City and stated that he is putting his "heart and soul and bones into this role," referring to his latest portrayal for the DC Comics movie adaptation.

The 42-year-old actor, however, did not mention whether his character will be appearing in the "Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice" movie which has been set to premiere in 2016.

Johnson may have implied a role in "Justice League" or possibly a connection to such universe. He drew attention to the world's expansion to include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. The actor mentioned how excited he was about such project and seeks to pay tribute to DC Comics' mythology by creating "something very cool."

There have been no comments from Warner Bros. about the AP report as well as from Johnson's reps regarding his latest statement, although the actor dropped some hints last month about the character he is playing and the film it will be featured in.

"There's a character out there that we're gonna announce very soon that I'm gonna play, and I'll just say this - it's the power of Superman," the actor told Total Film magazine. "This character has the power of Superman, he can throw down... just say the word, that's all I'm gonna say."

After a couple of days, Johnson took to Twitter and posted a drawing of Shazam, Black Adam and Superman.
