Barnes & Noble is back in the tablet game and now partners with Samsung.

Samsung and Barnes & Noble yesterday launched their co-branded tablet packed with Nook software.

The special version is called "Galaxy Tab 4 Nook" and it's now on sale.

It features a 7-inch HD display and has a quad-core processor. Galaxy Tab 4 Nook has 8 GB file storage that's expandable up to 32 GB through a microSD card slot. It runs under Android 4.4 Kit Kat.

Now, it's lighter and thinner compared to the previous Nooks devices at 9.74 ounces. It comes in white and black.

The added feature for this tab is a 3 megapixel rear camera and 1.3 megapixel front camera.

Mike Huseby, CEO of Barnes & Noble, said the tablet is loaded with US$200 worth of content, including e-books Freakonomics, I Am Number Four and The Wanderer.

An episode from HBO's Veep, Hannibal from NBC Universal and BBC America's Orphan Black are also included.

It contains the bookseller's software like Nook Newsstand for magazines, Nook Apps and Nook Video for TV/movie purchases and rentals.

Just like with the previous Nook, users can access free Wi-Fi at B&N stores. Book reading is also for free while in store.

The company also promises to continue the offer of free in-store customer service for the Nook set-up and support.

Barnes & Noble will offer a 14-day trial subscription from different magazines like Cosmopolitan, Sports Illustrated and US Weekly. Users at Nook Stores will be given US$5 to spend.

The company's deal with Samsung doesn't mean the retailer will abandon its other devices.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook is now available at Barnes & Noble Stores and online for US$179 with a US$20 instant rebate.
