Chinese world speed skating champion Zhang Hong had won three gold medals in the ongoing 13th China National Winter Games, but she missed her pre-announced target of breaking the world record in the 1000 meter event.

The 27-year-old Harbin, Heilongjiang, China native clocked one minute and 14.69 seconds in her run during the games' 1000 meter final, more than two seconds beyond the current world record of 1:12.18 reclaimed by American Brittany Bowe in Salt Lake City, Utah on Nov. 22 of last year during the 2015-16 ISU Speed Skating World Cup.

Before that, Bowe's previous world record of 1:12.58 established in Nov. 2013 was beaten by another American, Heather Richardson, who registered 1:12.51, seven days prior in the same competitions.

Still it was not all disappointing for Zhang as she added to her gold medal collection following her previous wins in the 500 meters and 1,500 meters events respectively.

Zhang disclosed that she was not 100 percent healthy during her final 1000-meter run and that her legs were very sore as she pushed herself to finish her run as best as she could.

"I ran out of steam after yesterday's 500m final, so I failed to deliver my best form today," Zhang said, via Xinhuanet. "I woke up feeling very tired as I did not get proper rest after yesterday."

The 2014 World Sprint Speed Skating Championships silver medalist also won the gold medal in the 2014 Sochi Winger Olympics 1000 meter event, ending China's 34-year wait for an Olympic gold in speed skating.

The speed skating competitions of the current Xinjiang Winter Games are over, but the national sporting event itself is still ongoing until this weekend, as per CCTV English.

Zhang is now set to travel to Stavanger, Norway to compete in the fifth leg of the ISU World Cup series scheduled on Friday at the Sørmarka Arena.

"The Norway World Cup race is scheduled to take place on Friday, so I have no time to rest. This World Cup event serves as a qualification for the upcoming world championships. I will try to skate as fast as I can," she said.
