Emily Ratajkowski, one of the models dancing topless in Robin Thicke's 2013 'Blurred Lines,' came out swinging in defense of the controversial move denounced by some critics as offensive to women.

"The female body is a beautiful thing, and it should be embraced and celebrated," Emily is quoted in the fall fashion issue of Ocean Drive magazine.

Dressed in nude-colored underwear bottoms, Ratajkowski, along with models Elle Evans and Jessi M'Bengue, are seen dancing somewhat casually in the video around singer Thicke in a style the England-born Ratajkowski describes as something a woman absentmindedly would do in her apartment. Two versions of the video exist, the bare-breasted version and one where the women are covered up. To pass censors, the later was mostly seen.

"We're at an interesting time where women have been told [that] taking the pill is cool, to sleep with whomever you want, or wear what you want, but if you're naked, it can be offensive or sexist in some way. That's the last step our culture needs to deal with," Emily observed.

In the history of gratuitous nudity on film, "Blurred Lines" is somewhat disappointing. Other than the fact the models are topless and dancing, very little else is particularly suggestive.

Since the video's debut last year, Ratajkowski has seen her star as being on the rise. The 23-year-old model, who now calls California home, has been cast in two A-list films, Gone Girl, with Ben Affleck, and We Are Your Friends, with Zac Efron.

'There's nothing wrong with being comfortable in your own skin. If anything, it can be really beautiful,' she told Ocean Drive.

"Blurred Lines" was also the medium that arguably shot the popularity of Miley Cyrus into the stratosphere, when she infamously twerked Thicke to a live version of the song. Gyrating against Thicke wearing rubber undergarments and waving a giant foam finger at the 2013 MTV Music Video Awards, Cyrus's performance was criticized by Ratajkowski's video co-star Evans, who called the spectacle "distasteful."
