Google.com is by far one of the Internet's most popular domain name as well as search engine. The domain rakes in around $8 billion in income and a massive seven billion daily hits. The URL, which is widely considered an influential and powerful domain, was, however, purchased by an MBA student for only $12.

On Sept. 28, 2015 the Google.com domain became temporarily available for purchase on Google's own Google Domain service. The domain name was eventually purchased by Babson College MBA student Sanmay Ved.

In a statement posted on his LinkedIn profile, Ved wrote, "I was learning more about the Google Domains interface, and typed google.com [sic] and clicked search domains. To my surprise, Google.com was showing as available."

Ved, who used to be a Google employee, purchased the domain for only $12. According to MTV, Ved was able to own one of the Internet's most popular and powerful domain for at least a minute before its rightful owner, Google, snatched it back.

In October 2015, Google paid Ved an undisclosed amount through its reward program which gives out monetary prize to people who discover glitches and security loopholes on its services.

Ved later wrote, "Google Security has now contacted me, and has offered me a $x reward in a very Googley way."

After the story winded up on the internet, there were speculation that Ved could have earned millions, possibly billions, of dollars due to his exploit. It was later revealed, via Google's annual year-in-review, that the company paid Ved $6,006,13.

At a quick glance, the number appeared to be a random calculation or just some odd amount especially when one has to consider what Ved discovered. However, a keen look into the digits and it will reveal what Ved referred to as "a very Googley way."

Google, when spelled in numerical values, is 600613.

Ved later wrote "it was never about the money." He donated his bounty to The Art of Living India, a non-governmental organization that provides free education to under privileged children in India. Impressed by Ved's generosity, Google doubled the sum to $12, 012.26, according to The Huffington Post.
