Tory, who is organizing the trade mission, invites Toronto businessmen, academic leaders, and other interested parties to join him in the visiting Shanghai, Chongqing and Hong Kong this April.

Aside from the mayor, the confirmed attendees in the 10-day trade mission to China include Councilor Michael Thompson, the economic development chair, former provincial cabinet minister Janet Ecker, who now heads the Toronto Financial Services Alliance, and Janet De Silva, chief executive of the Toronto Region Board of Trade.

"The trip's purpose is to strengthen economic relationships between Toronto and China as well as Japan, focusing on financial services, infrastructure, clean technology and education," according to a statement released by Tory's office.

Chongqing and Toronto has an existing partner city relationship and Tory will be in the Chinese city to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the partnership.

Tory was among those who witnessed the signing of the sister-city agreement between Toronto and Chongqing in 1986.

To further entice Toronto businesses and entrepreneurs, the city recently launched a website for those interested to join the 10-day mission to China.

The Toronto delegation will proceed to Japan after its scheduled trade mission in China.

China and Canada's relation dates back to 1942, providing vast and dynamic web of cooperate linkages and undertakings.

Canada's long-standing and comprehensive relationship with China operates at many levels and in many areas, including in trade, governance, health, development, education and culture.
