In 2015, popular toymaker Mattel released a new version of its iconic View-Master stereoscope and turned it into one of the best Google Cardboard devices on the market. Mattel is once again making rounds in the tech community following the launch of its second-generation View-Master device called the Viewer-Master Viewer DLX.

The Mattel View-Master Viewer DLX was unveiled at the recently concluded New York Toy Fair. The second generation View-Master improves on some of the shortcomings of its predecessors and also comes with a slew of new features.

The biggest improvement on the new View-Master DLX is the addition of a headphone jack. The previous version of the View-Master relies on the smartphone's speakers for its audio, a support that usually gives out muffled sounds since the speakers are inside the Cardboard's enclosure.

The smartphone mount of the new View-Master Viewer DLX now supports smaller smartphones, like the iPhone 5, without the need for a separate adaptor.

The new View-Master Viewer DLX also features upgraded optical lenses as well as a focal adjustment wheel in order to sharpen and further improve the images.

Along with the View-Master DLX, Mattel also launched a two-player puzzle platform, which involves one player wearing the VR headset and solving the puzzle while the other player uses a physical book to give out clues.

Mattel is also working with National Geographic to build a dinosaur-themed experience pack. This will be added on top of the currently available packs with themes like Space and Wildlife.

The Viewer DLX will go on sale this fall and will have a price tag of $39.99. The previous generation model costs $30.

The new labyrinth puzzle game will cost $199.99, while the Dinosaur pack will cost $14.99. Both the puzzle game and the themed pack will be released alongside the View-Master Viewer DLX.
