Recent football transfer rumors have emerged that Everton winger Steven Pienaar "could exit the club this week" to join a still unknown Chinese Super League team as several clubs from the China top flight is reportedly luring the former South Africa national team skipper.

Daily Mail Online said that the 33-year-old attacking midfielder "has been targeted by Chinese Super League clubs as they look to make another raid on the Premier League before their transfer window closes this week".

Pienaar did not play in the Toffees' 2-0 FA Cup victory over AFC Bournemouth last Saturday as speculations began to swirl that he is set for a Goodison Park exit in favor of an Asian club as the China winter transfer window closes on Friday.

The Johannesburg, South Africa native's contract with Everton is due to expire at the end of the season and the Merseyside residents are reportedly not keen on giving him an extension, which is why his representatives are allegedly searching for potential suitors even in the Far East.

SB Nation noted that Pienaar is one of several Toffee players that could be leaving the club this summer as he "has fallen far down the depth chart and now seems unlikely to see game time in League or Cup games for the rest of the year".

Head coach Roberto Martinez had always been a fan of the South African's flair and finesse on the pitch, but his advancing age made the manager stick to his younger players this season instead.

In Everton's 26 games played in the domestic league so far this season, Pienaar has only appeared five times and have not scored any goals. To be fair, though, the 5-foot-7 attacking midfielder's form is bothered by a recurring hamstring injury which is one of the reasons why he did not have enough first team appearances.

If a China deal pushes through, then Pienaar may be with another team even before the Premier League season ends this year.
