Chinese Businessman Among 18 Killed in Oman Accident

The Chinese Embassy in Muscat has confirmed that one Chinese national was among the 18 people killed in a road accident in Western Oman on Tuesday dawn.

Another Chinese national was also among the 14 people who were wounded in the road accident that occurred between Ibri and Fahud.

The embassy said the two Chinese nationals are businessmen engaged in trade deals between Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the Royal Oman Police, the accident involved a bus, a lorry, and a car that collided. Further details about the collision, including its cause, were not immediately known.

Initial investigation, however, showed that the bus and the lorry crashed head-on at a roundabout on the road while the car later crashed into the wreckage. A lorry is a large truck used for transporting goods.

Mohammed bin Salama Al Hashami, spokesman for Oman police, said police officers and rescuers arrived at the scene through helicopters.

He added that the 14 injured persons, which include the Chinese national, had injuries ranging from minor to serious and were brought to hospitals throughout the sultanate.

The fatalities were onboard the bus that was on its way to Dubai from Salalah. According to the official Xinhua news agency, the bus had 28 passengers on board when the accident occurred.

The incident area is located between the cities of Fahud and Ibri, which are situated in the Omani desert west of Muscat, the capital of Oman.

The identities of those who perished were not immediately disclosed but authorities said the fatalities include six from Oman, four from Saudi Arabia, two from Pakistan, one from Yemen, one from China, while others were still unidentified.

The injured persons include 11 from Oman, two from Saudi Arabia, one from Pakistan, one from China, and another unidentified person.
