China electric car users would be glad to hear that the Beijing Electric Power Company has committed to set up around 6,000 charging stations in Beijing within this year.

As an added feature, these charging stations will be built with a number of sockets to allow several vehicles to charge at the same time.

According to the electric company, a total of 14 large charging facilities and 5,880 will be established in expressway service stations and urban areas, respectively, China Daily reported.

The move to set up charging bays in Beijing is crucial especially as the government is determined to further promote electric vehicles among its citizens.

Based on records, the 172 charging stations in the capital city of China recorded two million charges at the end of 2015.

Meanwhile, it has been learned that three of the seven Beijing expressway service stations with charging feature are not yet working.

On the other hand, Clean Technica reported that sales of electric cars in China grew by 223 percent last year, making it the largest market for electric vehicles.

Electric-powered vehicles enjoyed a share of 1.4 percent in the country's total auto market in December 2015. This accounted for around 34,100 units. Furthermore, the Chinese market is 50 percent bigger compared to the United States when it comes to EV sales.

This performance, as cited, can be attributed to the incentives that China provides to those who opt for electric cars over petroleum-powered vehicles.
