In the film, Matt, 45, portrays a European mercenary who is wandering and eventually reaches the ever-famous Chinese structure, the Great Wall of China.

With a budget of $150 million, 'The Great Wall' boasts of a star-studded set with several Chinese and American stars, a renowned Chinese director and around 1,300-stong cast and crew.

China has become famous internationally for a number of reasons - like its overwhelming Olympic ceremonies and Confucian institutes, but not for its film industry.

With the anticipated 2017 release of 'The Great Wall', China's movie industry may the country's newfound source of fame.

Experts say the movie will benefit both Hollywood studios involved in the project and the Chinese government.

Thilo Hanemann, an economist from the research firm Rhodium Group, explains that "for [the] US industry, these concessions are really about market access."

While there is no assurance that 'The Great Wall' will make it big in the global movie market, there is a strong possibility that it could follow the footsteps of 'Kung Fu Panda 3' and 'The Mermaid.'
