In an advisory released by the National Hurricane Center on Sunday afternoon, Cristobal was moving north at the speed of 8 mph with sustained winds of 45 mph.

The nonstop rain brought by the storm caused flooding in the streets of Turks and Caicos making it hard for vehicles to travel on Sunday.

The storm brought about three to six inches of rain on Puerto Rico while Bermuda experienced 150 percent more rainfall than normal for the month of August.

"Even if the center does not directly pass over Bermuda, a broad flow of moisture and gusty winds can affect the islands for a few days," Hurricane expert Dan Kottlowski said.

Because of the maximum winds sustained by the storm, Sunday evening's advisory said that the storm could become a hurricane by Wednesday.

Although it has no direct effect on the United States, the hurricane is expected to bring dangerous rip currents and rough surf through Wednesday.

In a statement released by Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski of AccuWeather, he said Cristobal is expected to stay close to the Atlantic beaches of the United States, and will "generate swells that propagate outward and will reach the shoreline in the form of rough surf in the last week of August."

Weather forecasts say Cristobal will pass through parallel the U.S. southeast coast till Thursday during which it could become a hurricane.

Although the latest location of the storm is expected pass through northeast of Bermuda, it is still being closely monitored for shifts in direction.
