After failing a tryout in China, three-time NBA slam dunk champion Nate Robinson has decided to give the NFL a try.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Robinson said that he hopes to be remembered as the first person to play in both the NBA and the NFL.

The 5'9" guard's basketball career has seen better days. He was cut from the New Orleans Pelicans in October 2015, and then failed a tryout for the Chinese Basketball Association's Xinjiang Flying Tigers in January 2016.

With his chances of playing basketball decreasing, Robinson is turning to football, a sport he has played in the past. In 2002, he played 13 games as a defensive back for the University of Washington.

"I haven't played in 11 years, 12 years, but I know how to tackle, I know how to play, I know how to hit, I know how to catch," Robinson said in a video from The Lead Sports. "I know it all. If someone gave me a real opportunity, I know I could play."

In a 2013 interview with Believe the Hype, Robinson confidently shed light on his current plans, saying, "if I really gave it my all and stopped focusing on basketball, gave everything I have on football, I'd probably be one of the best corners the NFL has ever seen."

Robinson would actually be the second athlete to make the jump from the NBA to the NFL. Bud Grant, a member of the NFL Hall of Fame, started his professional career in the NBA in the early 1950s, before switching to football.

There have been many other professional two-sport athletes, but not too many (outside of NFL and MLB all-star Bo Jackson) have been successful. Everyone remembers Michael Jordan's infamous stint in baseball, and most recently Jarryd Hayne, the Australian rugby star, impressed for the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, before fizzling out in the regular season.

So far no NFL teams have expressed interest in signing Robinson, but there is plenty of time until training camps open in July.
