In the meantime, he pointed out that corruption will be scrutinized as well in the promotion and selection processes, while he divulged that he is very committed about checking on the grassroots officials, especially those who are handling agriculture and poverty alleviation-related functions.

Based on the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) data shared by China Daily, a total of 54,249 officials at all levels were probed last year as China continues to adopt measures to crackdown corruption. Accordingly, it was almost the same with the 2014 figure.

Of this number, 8,217 were accused of taking bribes, wherein 2,495 of them were punished.

According to Supreme People's Court president Zhou Qiang, the increasing number of prosecutions means that "the Party and country's resolute determination to tackle corruption."

It can be recalled that in October 2014, the SPP launched an initiative which intends to bring back to China the alleged corrupt officials who already went abroad. Through such move, the country was able to make 124 suspects return from 34 countries and regions, including those from the United States, Canada and Australia.

With China sustaining its corruption crackdown, it is expected that more corrupt officials will be exposed and punished in the coming days once proven guilty.
