Rumors have emerged that the Boston Celtics will try to lure Kevin Durant in the summer as the team wants an established superstar that will finally make them the championship contender that Danny Ainge wants them to be.

The 27-year-old 2014 NBA Most Valuable Player has been linked to a lot of teams - namely the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State Warriors, and his hometown squad Washington Wizards - as he is set to be a free agent this July. However, it was only recently that the Celtics, the NBA's highest winning ballclub with 17 championships, have been mentioned as one of the teams targeting the 6-foot-9 forward.

Fansided's Michael Saenz noted that Durant going to Boston "makes a lot of sense" as the Celtics has a "solid group of players" and "one of the hottest young coaches in the NBA" in Brad Stevens.

As of the moment, Boston has a 39-29 record, tied with Atlanta at the fourth and fifth spots of the Eastern Conference, after losing three straight games, including one against the Thunder on Wednesday night, 130-109. During the game, Durant was serenaded by Celtics fans to "Come to Boston" while shooting free throws.

Meanwhile, ESPN's Chris Forsberg reported that the Celtics are "positioned to fish again" in the coming free-agency period "for that elusive big catch" that will perhaps make the team a legitimate title contender moving forward.

Forsberg mentioned that transferring to the East "might benefit" Durant "from simply escaping a bloodthirsty Western Conference" where he has to go through the experienced San Antonio Spurs and the mighty Golden State Warriors if he even wants a crack at an NBA Finals berth.

Durant has been mum about his plans this summer and many expected him to stay in Oklahoma for years to come. There are still no indications whether the five-time All-NBA First Teamer has changed his mind yet.
