Recent rumors have emerged that perennial La Liga powerhouse squad Real Madrid is preparing a £60 million summer swoop for Everton FC's young goal scoring machine Romelu Lukaku.

SunSport reported that "discussions between Lukaku's agent, Mino Raiola, and Madrid representatives are already taking place", which could see the 22-year-old Belgium international head to Spain from England next season.

The report further noted that while Lukaku and his camp assert that he is quite happy playing for the Toffees for three seasons now, the 6-foot-3 Belgian striker "believes he will only further his career by appearing regularly in the Champions League" and he could achieve that with Los Blancos.

It is expected for Everton to try and fight for Lukaku against all bidders in the summer, but a £60 million offer would be too difficult to resist for the Toffees since the club got the burly forward from Chelsea in July of 2014 for only £28 million.

An "underperforming Everton side" would find the reported offer "too good to turn down" as it can be used to acquire a couple of experienced role players to provide extra help for Roberto Martínez's squad.

Everton is settled at the 12th spot of the English Premier League table with nine games left in their schedule despite Lukaku scoring 18 goals in 28 domestic top flight appearances. He had registered 25 goals in 36 games in all competitions for the Toffees so far this season.

Caught Offside noted that Lukaku will be used to replace "the outgoing Karim Benzema, who Madrid president Florentino Perez is expected to dump at the end of the season" perhaps because of the off-pitch controversies of the French striker and his noticeable on-pitch decline in form as well.

In three seasons with Everton, Lukaku had scored 61 times in 117 games in all competitions and this season has been his most productive yet, indicating that he is just entering his prime years in professional football.
