Sony has announced that Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) will be officially called Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), joining forces with Sony Network Entertainment (SNE).

SIE’s headquarter is in San Mateo, California, with other offices in Tokyo and London. This name change was announced in January. PlayStation executive Andrew House says bringing the companies together will help SIE become a stronger entity, with a clear objective to further accelerate the growth of the PlayStation business.

The formation of SIE aims to bring a new level of power to Sony in the video game sphere. Sony executive Shawn Layden stated that Sony Interactive Entertainment has been formed as a global interactive entertainment powerhouse. Layden said that there will be a unified PlayStation organization, offering a stronger and more innovative service in the market.

Layden also added that SIE will be able to adapt more quickly to meet the needs of the gaming community, innovate with digital services like PlayStation Vue and PlayStation Now. It will also offer consistent and constant innovation in the ever changing videogame platform. PlayStation VR is one of the innovations that the company has done since its announcement earlier this year, and SIE will continue the work across its different platforms.

He will be the Chairman of Worldwide Studios alongside his role as President of Sony Interactive Entertainment America and will look out for the innovation of virtual reality headset. Layden will have more involvement with first party game development teams across Sony, potentially working with the likes of Naughty Dog and Guerrilla Games.

The diamond-shaped SCE logo will stay. Another change that Sony has made is the formation of a brand-new subsidiary that would focus on making mobile games for the Asia market.
