The Rolling Stones will be dropping a brand new album later this year, according to band member Ronnie Wood.

Wood revealed that the group has been working in the studio and recently recorded new material along with some blues covers with the intention to release an album later this year. This will be the band's first album in 11 years after 2005's A Bigger Bang.

"We went in to cut some new songs, which we did," the 68-year-old said. "But we got on a blues streak. We cut 11 blues in two days."

"They are extremely great cover versions of Howlin' Wolf and Little Walter, among other blues people. But they really sound authentic," he said adding that the new material will be out this year.

The British rock group, which comprises of Wood, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts, just wrapped a tour of Latin America and made history by becoming the first major international rock band to perform in Cuba.

The Rolling Stone are currently in London for their "Exhibitionism" exhibit at the Saatchi Gallery, which displays more than 500 artefacts, including guitars, costumes and other memorabilia from the band's history.

"There's one coming," Richards teased, when asked about the prospect of a new album, without revealing any further details. "I can't say no more. My lips are sealed."

The rock band's career spans over five decades, during which they have released 22 studio albums in the U.K. and 24 albums in the U.S.

A Bigger Bang was their last album, which they promoted while on tour in 2005, '06 and '07.

The group took some time off touring before hitting the road again in 2012 to mark their 50th anniversary, and have only managed to launch a couple of new tracks since.
