NBA News & Rumors: Dwight Howard to Exit Houston This Summer? Teammates Freezing Him Out, Says Stephen A. Smith

(Photo : Getty Images) Speculation are out that this could be the final season of Dwight Howard in Houston as the Rockets are allegedly set to let him go in the summer.

If current speculations are true about Houston Rockets starting center Dwight Howard, then it looks like this is going to be the final season of the eight-time NBA All-Star with the Texas franchise as both parties are "tired" of each other, according to recent reports.

Fansided reported that the 30-year-old three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner "is once again growing tired of his current playing situation" being second-in-command to James Harden in Houston. With his overall numbers and in-game touches rapidly declining as well, it was speculated that "the once-loved big man may be on the move again this summer".

The report noted, however, that despite Howard's growing reputation as a trouble maker since he left the Orlando Magic in 2012, he would still have "no trouble finding another team" that would fancy his services if he indeed chooses to opt out of his current deal with the Rockets this July.

There is no doubt that the five-time All-NBA First Teamer is still a beast off the boards and in the defensive end as he presently averages 11.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game with the Rockets, but the negative drama he brings to a team and the recurring injuries that keep him from playing full 82-game seasons may make any contending team think twice about signing him when that time comes.

According to some NBA analysts, it is clear that the Rockets, particularly the team's players, do not want him back next season and so it is highly likely that Howard will test the free agent waters this summer.

The Big Lead cited TV broadcaster Stephen A. Smith as saying that Howard "is on his way out in Houston" as his teammates are "sending him the message that they don't want him around anymore".

Smith argued that "the fact that Howard hasn't hit double digits in field goal attempts in 13 games" and has not scored in double digits also in the same time period proves that "his teammates don't care to get the big man the ball".

Houston is currently fighting for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. If they fail to advance in the postseason then it is highly likely that Howard will end up with another team next season.
