'Tomb Raider' reboot may feature Daisy Ridley of 'Star Wars' fame as the new Lara Croft. She may portray a younger version of the iconic video game character first introduced on the big screen by Angelina Jolie.

Ridley has confirmed that she is indeed in negotiations to play the lead protagonist and video game heroine Lara Croft in the planned live-action adaptation of the games of the same name. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at the Empire Awards, she revealed, "(There) have been discussions... I'm waiting for someone to say 'I want you, let's do it.'"

The young English actress shot to international stardom as Rey in J.J. Abrams' 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.' She is set to reprise her role in Rian Johnson's follow-up 'Star Wars: Episode 8' with co-stars Mark Hamill, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac.

She was relatively unknown before her big break in the Disney-Lucasfilm project. She started out with minor roles in television series such as 'Casualty', 'Toast of London' and 'Silent Witness'.

Ridley did not specify whether she has signed with Warner Bros. for the much-coveted female lead made famous on the big screen by Angelina Jolie. Jolie portrayed Lara Croft in the original cinematic adaptations of the game, specifically in 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider' released in 2001 and its sequel 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life' released in 2003.

Although the two original films did not earn critical praise, both achieved fairly mainstream success at the box office. 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider' became the highest-grossing video game adaptation during its time. 'Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life' may not have surpassed its predecessor in earnings, but Jolie's performance as the lead character was admired all the same.

According to Deadline, the success of the video game reboot by game developer Square Enix in 2013 may have provided some inspiration for the upcoming film. The 'Tomb Raider' video game released in 2013 featured a much younger Lara Croft and followed her first adventures as a student of archaeology.

'Tomb Raider' reboot is an upcoming live-action adaptation of the video game series of the same name. Norwegian director Roar Uthaug is set to helm the film with a screenplay penned by Evan Daugherty. It is scheduled to premiere in theaters sometime in 2017.
