According to The New Paper, the two-time men's singles Olympic gold medalist attracted an estimated crowd of around 500, who witnessed the 32-year-old five-time world champion claim a 2-0 triumph over the 20-year-old Indonesian shuttler.

"The draught was not bad today; perhaps the tournament hasn't been that exciting for a few years now and the organizers have thus considered how to give the players the best playing conditions,"  Lin, who will be facing Indonesia's Christie Jonatan in the next round, said.

Meanwhile, in the other matches of the badminton tournament, current world No. 1 Chen Long of China avoided an early opening round elimination after beating the 2016 Swiss Open champion H.S.
