Hollywood star Tom Hanks has joined in the ongoing turf battle for the Women's World Cup.

The tournament that will be played in Canada next year is garnering controversy, as the turf set for play is artificial rather than real grass.

Players from the U.S. Women's National Team began the salvo against FIFA, before being joined by international players and celebrities.

Hanks placed his two cents on the matter, stating his opinion that the Women's World Cup will be the best Soccer action this year, and this the players should be allowed to play on real grass.

There are many reasons for the complaint. First of all, some players see the artificial turf as a potential hazard.

There are heat-absorbing properties in the artificial grass that make it harder to play under the sun.

Other players have also suggested that the rough surface of it makes it harder to play, saying that it hurts to slide on it, and the ball doesn't control half as well as when playing on real grass. It impacts the way the players operate.

On the other hand, some players are fighting the rule on terms of equity. In the previous World Cup in Brazil, the male international players were not made to play on artificial grass.

The U.S. Forward Sydney Leroux stated her sentiments about the matter, saying that, "It's the World Cup. It's the biggest thing we have for soccer. Why would we play on something that's not real?"

The complaint was sent in the form of a letter drafted by law firm Boies, Schiller & Flexner. They had sent it to FIFA and the Canadian Soccer Association.

While FIFA had acknowledged that they received the email, they declined to comment on the possible actions they will take.

The law firm Boies, Schiller & Flexner is prepared to go to court if the protests are not heeded.
