The Western Conference Pacific division team Sacramento Kings has officially given the pink slip to the club's head coach George Karl on Thursday after completing his first full season with the franchise.

King's General Manager Vlade Divac announced the measure a day following the team finished off another unsatisfactory season with a 33-49 record.

Karl, 64, the eighth coach that guided the Vivek Ranadive-owned team since 2006, signed a four-year deal when the team hired him in February 2015 to replace Tyrone Corbin. According to an ESPN report, the veteran NBA coach will be receiving the remaining $6.5 million guaranteed in his contract.

"I feel bad doing this," Divac, a retired Serbian professional basketball player famously known to play with the Los Angeles Lakers, said. "But after what we experienced this year I thought we could do better and try to improve our team. I think George did a great job this year. But there was a part where there was a disconnect with the plays and the players so I made a decision to let him go."

During the reign of the four-time NBA All-Star head coach with Sacramento, Karl failed to meet the Kings high expectations of him. He was unable to fix the problems on the court and was unsuccessful in improving the team's defense and often had disagreements with DeMarcus Cousins, the King's star center.

The Sacramento Kings is the sixth NBA team that the University of North Carolina product has coached following his previous stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Seattle SuperSonics, Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets.

Karl, who is the 2013 NBA Coach of the Year, currently ranks fifth on the league's all-time coaching wins list with an impressive career record of 1,175-824. His career playoff record stands at 80-105.

Kevin McHale, Nate McMillan, Mark Jackson and Vinny Del Negro are among the names Sacramento is considering for its coaching post as per NBA coaching sources.
