Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White has scolded featherweight champion Jose Aldo for trying to hype his upcoming title fight by shoving his opponent during a recent staredown.

In a recent media day, Aldo and opponent Chad "Money" Mendes were posing for pictures, but when it got to the staredown and they were in each other's faces, Aldo pushed Mendes hard, and both started charging at each other.

People had to pull them apart before they could hurt each other.

Aldo later admitted that his actions were part of the publicity, to sell and hype the fight. However, these comments only came out after his team said that the push was real and intended.

Dana White came to Aldo's defense, albeit to a certain extent. He explained that there are times when the fighters would begin speaking in Portuguese, and it would come out different in English.

He cited former bantamweight champion Renan Barao. Word recently got out that Barao wanted more money from the organization. When White and the UFC called him, Barao said he did not say those things.

Afterwards, Dana added that fighters of Aldo's caliber shouldn't be resorting to trash-talking and tricks to hype a fight. His skills are enough to hype it up and he should concentrate on that.

While it has worked for certain fighters with gift of gab - like Chael Sonnen, Connor McGregor, and Josh Koscheck before - it isn't for everybody, says White.

"Yes, some guys may stand out a little more, but if you have the talent you're going to get where you want to go anyway," White said.

The altercation came after light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and contender Daniel Cormier had a similar experience, which ultimately led to a brawl.

White took a more neutral stance at the time, offering comments of understanding such situation. He said that anything can happen.

Aldo's rematch against Mendes will take place at UFC 179 in October. The two fought previously, with Aldo countering Mendes' takedown with a knee.
