Incumbent Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett lags behind his Democrat challenger by a wider margin than two months ago, according to a forecast released on Thursday. Even the Republican voters are likely to vote for Tom Wolf in the November election, the report said.

At the start of summer, the pollster Franklin & Marshall College reported a 22-point difference between the candidates. At the recent poll of 520 voters, the difference has increased to 25 points, in favor of Wolf.

The registered voters likely to vote for Corbett dropped from 25 percent to 24 percent, according to the forecast.

In contrast, Tom Wolf gains wider support in Pennsylvania with 49 percent likely votes. His support in the state increased by 2 percent in two months.

The poll also showed that Wolf leads in all regions. He also leads even among the Republican voters, the report said.

It seems that Corbett's negative ad campaign against Wolf during the summer did not work.

The ad condemned Wolf's tax practices for his business and his plan on raising taxes for the middle class.

However, this backfired because Corbett refused to impose tax on natural gas drillers but cut public school support during his term.

G. Terry Madonna, the poll director, said that "Corbett has to find a way to change the dynamic, to get voters to give him a second look."

On the same day the poll results were released, Corbett made headlines for his Medicaid expansion program.

Many were delighted that he finally agreed to implement it, albeit modifications.  But many also believed that it was to raise his chances in the November election.

If this move made any difference, they would know on the next survey.

But there are less than three months remaining to close the gap in the race.

Billy Pitman, spokesman for Corbett's campaign said that "the only poll that will matter is on Election Day."
