Celebrities and Fans React to Revelations About Hello Kitty Being A British Girl

With the news that Hello Kitty is not whom the public thinks she is, fans all over the world have pitched in their own comments and responses.

The iconic Japanese cartoon character is not a cat but a young girl from the U.K.

Anthropologist Christine R. Yano from the University of Hawaii recently made the revelation, leaving fans and even celebrities more puzzled as ever.

Yano herself only understood the nature of the well-loved feline character recently when she had been prepping for her curating duties at a Hello Kitty exhibit at Los Angeles' Japanese American National Museum.

Sanrio's own biography for the cartoon that was first made public in 1974 did not disclose any more helpful details, but Yano learned more.

Hello Kitty's real name is Kitty White and grew up in a London suburban area. She also has her own pet cat "Charmmy Kitt" and pet hamster "Sugar".

However, many have not been convinced of such claims. Even American singer and opera sensation Josh Groban had something to say. He took to social media and tweeted, "She has whiskers and a cat nose. Girls don't look like that. Stop this nonsense."

Pop singer Katy Perry also commented and posted on Twitter, "IT'S OKAY HELLO KITTY FANS, KITTY PURRY IS A CAT."

Ryan Seacrest chimed in by tweeting, "Has anyone alerted @AvrilLavigne to this hello kitty news?"

Aside from celebrities, longtime fans all over the world had been hit hard by the news. A 30-year-old Hello Kitty aficionada, Cherry Chen, claimed that she will not change her commitment to the cartoon character despite a change in species.

"It's a cat and girl together," she said as she showed her glimmering Hello Kitty key chain outside a Sanrio boutique in Sunridge Mall. "It's beautiful and really cute. When I see Hello Kitty, I feel like I'm younger."
