The Washington Wizards recently signed Scott Brooks to a five-year deal worth $35 million to become their new head coach moving forward and speculations abound that superstar Kevin Durant will be on his way to DC this summer to join his former boss.

Yahoo Sports reported that the Wizards have "agreed in principle" with the 50-year-old former Oklahoma City Thunder chief bench tactician to coach the team starting next season.

The report noted that with the deal, Brooks became one of the highest-paid head coaches in the league who are without a front office position and is comparable to what Dallas Mavericks boss Rick Carlisle is enjoying right now.

Brooks said to have had a meeting with Wizards' top honchos Ernie Grunfeld and Tommy Sheppard on Wednesday and all of them have agreed to the said partnership.

Washington fired Randy Wittman after five seasons of being with the club following Sthe conclusion of the recent regular season as top team officials allegedly felt that the Wizards have been underachieving for years with elite point guard John Wall.

However, Fox Sports indicated that Brooks' hiring is more about luring Durant, the 2014 MVP and is considered as one of the top three greatest players in the planet now that Kobe Bryant has retired, to come back and play for his hometown squad.

The report mentioned that while in theory Brooks is a definite upgrade over Wittman, he is not the best coach available right now, but that "it's about something larger than that", pertaining to the possible snatching of Durant.

"The Wizards didn't hire Brooks because he was the best coach available - they hired him because he can lure Kevin Durant to Washington," the report said.

Previous reports had been out that the Wizards are "all-in" about snagging Durant when he becomes an unrestricted free agent this July. Although there are indications that he could resign with the Thunder for one more year before actually becoming a UFA, there are speculations that he could test the market this summer.

Some of the teams reportedly in contention for his services aside from the Wizards are the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers.
