The New York Knicks are reportedly set to choose between Kurt Rambis and David Blatt as the team's potential head coach starting next season.

Basketball Insiders reported that the Knicks' coaching hunt is "focused, for now, on interim head coach Kurt Rambis and former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt".

The report also mentioned that Knicks president Phil Jackson has completed a short talk with Golden State Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton last week for a possible shot at New York's chief bench tactician position, but further news said that as of the moment it all comes down to Rambis and Blatt.

ESPN's Ian Begley indicated that the Knicks are not in a hurry to decide on the matter because they have no first round selections in the coming draft, but clarified that Rambis is still Jackson's first choice for the job despite his "modest 9-19 record as interim coach".

The eleven-time champion coach is said to be preferring Rambis as he "views him as the coach best suited to not only run the triangle offense he favors but also to manage the team using Jackson's long-held principles".

The 58-year-old Rambis replaced Derek Fishes as Knicks head coach when the latter was fired on Feb. 8th.

Jackson told media on Thursday that Rambis is more effective in coaching the triangle, saying that "when Kurt started coaching the team, they started executing it with more structure. We saw some progress, but we have to make the next step". He clarified that Rambis is still not a shoo-in, however, as he intends to interview several applicants for the vacancy.

Meanwhile, Fansided's Maxwell Ogden reported that former Cavs head honcho Blatt is "willing to run the triangle offense" and coach the Knicks next season.

The report mentioned that the 56-year-old Blatt "believes the Knicks are interested in hiring him" and that he is "willing and able to run the Triangle Offense".

"He'd be absolutely willing to run the triangle,'' an NBA personnel director said, according to the report. "There's not great similarities between the two, but it is in the fundamental notion of ball movement, taking what the defense gives you."

Other names flying in the air with regards to the head coaching job are "Brian Shaw, Mark Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy and Patrick Ewing".
