Acer released its 14-inch Chromebook in March. The company apparently saw the need for an upgrade quickly and has released a new model of the device with the same size. The new 14-inch Chromebook model sports new features that Acer hopes will appeal to business-oriented professionals.

Dubbed the Chromebook 14 for Work, the new device from Acer is the first to ship with the sixth-generation Intel Skylake processor. Acer claims that with the Skylake processor, the new Chromebook will be more energy efficient and can last up to 12 hours on a single charge.

The new Chromebook sports a 14-inch display which supports 1366 x 768 or 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution. Acer said that lower resolution can further extent the battery life of the Chromebook.

Acer did some engineering marvels by squeezing the 14-inch display into a chassis best suited for 13-inch models. Tech analysts have also commended Acer for putting together a device that is lightweight and extra thin. The Chromebook 14 for Work weighs only 3.2 pounds and measures 0.88 inches thick.

To address concerns regarding reliability, Acer equipped the Chromebook 14 for Work with the Vibrant Corning Gorilla Glass scratch-resistant screen protector. Acer said that it doubles as free marketing option since companies can print graphics on it.

The Chromebook 14 for Work sports a spill-resistant keyboard and drop tests tested the device to heights of up to 48 inches. In terms of ruggedness and durability, the Chromebook 14 for Work [assed the MIL-STD 810G military grade standards test.

Additional specs include a USB 3.0 Type-C port which can connect to an external docking station should users need additional ports. It has an HD webcam rated at 1280 x 720 and support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Storage variants is limited to either 16GB or 32GB models. Memory options range from 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB.

The Acer Chromebook 14 for Work will sell for $349.
