Despite his wife not being supportive of his idea to build a home-made submarine, a Chinese farmer never lost his enthusiasm and determination.

Having gotten the idea from watching a TV show that featured some inventions a number of years ago, Zhang Shengwu, a farmer from east China's Anhui province was able to build a water vehicle that only cost him $770 or 5,000 yuan, according to China Daily.

The 51-year-old farmer's invention, which he started building in 2004, recently got the nod of the State Intellectual Property Office of China. Thus, his personally-built submarine was able to get a patent, amid the fact that initially, his spouse discouraged him to pursue it because it was "too hard, dangerous and costly."

Zhang, also a successful Chinese businessman who is into selling construction materials, built his submarine by using a motor used by a tricycle and four 12-volt batteries to power it. By having only such materials to operate it, it was learned that it can actually dive upto one meter under water.

When asked for his next plans following the success of his first submarine, he shared that he is keen about constructing a new boat for him to help more people.

On Wednesday, the Chinese farmer and entrepreneur did a demonstration on how to operate the submarine, his new invention, on a river with several spectators taking some snaps of another notable creation from China.

In the meantime, People's Daily Online revealed that it took Zhang two months to finish his submarine, which can only accommodate one person.
