'Tekken X Street Fighter,' the crossover of 'Tekken' and 'Street Fighter,' may be shelved at least for the moment as the developer thinks that it might "split up" the fanbase of both popular titles. So for now, there is no release date yet for the much-anticipated game.

This news was confirmed by Katsuhiro Harada, game director of 'Tekken 7,' in an interview with Gamespot. He hinted that both franchises might stand to lose from the crossover.

Harada said that when they conceptualize and develop the successors of the core game, they are always thinking of the fan base. 'Street Fighter V' was recently released and the release date for the arcade version of 'Tekken 7' is rumored to be sometime in July.

This is the reason why 'Tekken X Street Fighter' has been shelved indefinitely. While both franchises have been trying to find a good opportunity to develop the game, the release date of the title might impact on the performance of 'Tekken 7' and 'Street Fighter V' in the market.

The decision to halt the development of the 'Tekken X Street Fighter' will definitely benefit Bandai Namco more, particularly with the weak performance of its arcade division. According to Forbes, the company reported declining revenues in its arcade sales from $373 million to $303 million this year.

Putting more titles out there might impact on the current games like 'Tekken 7' or 'Street Fighter V.' In fact, the fifth installment in the Street Fighter franchise did not make waves in physical sales during the first week of its release. In that time span, the game only sold 46,836 units.

In contrast, 'Street Fighter IV' sold 84,937 and 'Super Street Fighter IV' sold 80,103 units. All those titles were blown away by 'Super Smash Bros' on Wii U, which sold 244,747 physical units. These revenues does not take into account digital downloads.
