In May last year, Sony announced that there will be a The Craft remake much to the delight of fans. However, the reboot of the 1996 witch film will actually be more of a sequel, and it will pick up 20 years later from where the movie ended.

The Craft is a film by Andrew Fleming. The plot follows the story of Sarah Bailey (Robin Tunney) as she gets involved with three outcast girls in her high school, Nancy (Fairuza Balk), Bonnie (Neve Campbell) and Rochelle (Rachel True).

The four girls dabble in witchcraft and spells. Eventually, they learn how to make use of their powers and decide to use them on classmates who have insulted or embarrassed them.

Though fans were excited to learn of a remake of The Craft, the producer of the original movie, as well as the new one, Douglas Wick, clarified the rumors and said that the story will pick up 20 years later.

While no previous stars of the first film have been confirmed to appear, Wick told HitFix that, "There will be callbacks to the original movie, so you will see there is a connection between what happened in the days of The Craft."

Wick also shared a glimpse of what the upcoming movie will be like. "Here are some young women who once again discover the power of magic, and we explore their emotional lives, their wants, their fears, their longings, as they become empowered," he said.

The 36-year-old Leigh Janiak will be penning the script of The Craft, along with Phil Graziadei. Janiak is known for directing the movie Honeymoon, an American horror film, which premiered in 2014.

Sony is yet to announce when the movie would be released.
