Curry, 28, who is a listed 6-feet-3 point guard, helped the Oakland, California-based Warriors to set a new 73 wins 9 losses record - the best regular season record in the league's history.

The three-time All-Star made a dominant presence inside the basketball court and has achieved shooting milestone of becoming the first NBA player to make 400 three-pointers (402 treys to be exact) in a season. Curry became the seventh player in the history of the NBA to join the 50-40-90 club.

The Warriors' best player is averaging 30.1 points per contest this season making him the scoring leader of the most popular professional basketball league in the globe. Curry has a 45.4 percent shooting accuracy from the three-point range and 90.8 percent from the foul line.

Curry, who was also included in the recent Time Magazine's Most Influential People in the World for the year 2016, got the better of Golden State teammate Draymond Green, Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers, Paul Millsap of the Atlanta Hawks and Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks in the balloting result by the PBWA.

The sportswriters' professional organization is made up of approximately 175 writers and editors who cover the league on a regular basis for newspapers, magazines and online outlets, according to the PBWA.

The award was brought into being in 2001 and was named after the former Los Angeles Lakers superstar and Hall of Famer Earvin "Magic" Johnson, whom the PBWA regards as "the ideal model for the award."
