The New York Knicks have reportedly reached out to the agent of the former Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel to size up the interest of the 2014 NBA All-Star Game bench boss in the team's vacant coaching post.

According to ESPN, Steve Mills, the general manager of the Knicks, made contact with Vogel.

The Pacers parted ways with the 42-year-old Vogel this past Thursday after the team refused to renew his contract. Pacers' president Larry Bird announced that the club is dismissing Vogel from his job, adding that it is "time for a new voice."

In his six seasons as the Pacers coach, Vogel compiled a 250-181 regular-season record and a 31-30 playoff record, losing in Game seven of the first round to the Toronto Raptors this season. That loss prevented Indiana from becoming the sixth No. seven seeded team in the league's history to upset a No. two seeded club since the league expanded the playoffs during the 1980s.

In 2011, Vogel was appointed as the interim coach of Indiana after the Pacers terminated Head Coach Jim O'Brien. During his reign as interim coach, the Pensacola, Florida-born Vogel led the team to the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Vogel steered Indiana to reach the East semifinals after beating the Orlando Magic in the first round of the playoffs. The Pacers set a back-to-back conference finals showdown against the Miami Heat in 2013 and 2014. The Heat won the NBA championship title both times.

The Knicks finished 13th in the 15-team Eastern Conference this season with a record of 32-wins and 50 losses. The New York Knicks fired Derek Fisher in February this year and appointed assistant Kurt Rambis as interim head coach.
